About John Kim

History

Master John Kim was born on September 25, 1980. Three years after he was born he was in the classroom begining his martial arts career. At the age of 4 he was actively participating in both Judo and Tae Kwon Do classes under his father Grandmaster Myung Hwan Kim. Grandmaster Kim, who was a world champion in Judo, started John in competition by the age of 5.  Three years later, John was testing for his 1st degree black belt. As he continued his training in both Tae Kwon Do and Judo, John went on to win his first Junior Olympics at the age of 10. His brother Master Joseph E. Kim started taking a more active role as his instructor and helped John with his training. Over the next 7 years John attained higher degrees of black belt and won tournament after tournament. After seven straight years of competition, in 1997, John decided to take a break to focus on teaching and the traditional parts of the martial arts.

Teaching Experience

Mr. John Kim started teaching as an assistant to his father at the age of thirteen. As an assistant he helped instruct the junior classes at Kim's Martial Arts Fairview Park location. At the age of sixteen he became an official instructor at KMAS. John continued his teaching as the junior instructor and started taking on more responsiblity in some of the adult classes as he got older. Now not only did John teach Tae Kwon Do he was also in charge of the Judo program and was the main cardio fit kick boxing instructor.  In the year 2000 John officially became the head intructor at both of the KMAS locations in Fairview Park and Avon Ohio.

Coaching Experience

John Kim is a cerified level 1 coach in USA Tae Kwon Do. He has been very involved in USA Tae Kwon Do as a coach and competitor for over the last 10 years. He currently coaches students at both local and national levels.

Mr. Kim has helped his students become champions at not just the local level but national and international levels as well. He has aided his brother Master Joseph E. Kim in producing over 2 dozen national champions. In the past John has coached over a dozen students of his own to a national titles. Kim's Martial Arts has a very high success rate at the national championships. An extremely high percentage of students under Kim's that have competed at nationals have come home placing in 1 of the top 3 spots.  John is currently coaching athlete Kristen Frisch who is a two time Junior National team member and Pan American Champion. John dedicates a lot of his time training Kristen in preparation for her to become a senior national team member in the womens fly weight division.
